Jhon Arias’ European adventure appears to be coming to an abrupt end. After joining Wolverhampton Wanderers from Fluminense in July 2025, the Colombian playmaker is reportedly on the verge of a return to Brazilian football, with giants Palmeiras leading the race for his signature.
A Profitable Exit for Wolves
According to reports from GE, Palmeiras have submitted a €25 million offer for the 28-year-old. For Wolves, this represents a significant profit on the €17 million they paid just six months ago. Despite inheriting the prestigious number 10 shirt, Arias has struggled to ignite a struggling Wolves side, contributing just two goals and one assist in 26 appearances across all competitions.
The Molineux Crisis
Arias’ underwhelming stint can be partly attributed to Wolverhampton’s disastrous campaign. Currently sitting bottom of the Premier League with only eight points from 24 matches, Wolves are staring at almost certain relegation. The lack of stability at Molineux has made it difficult for the former Fluminense idol to replicate the form that made him one of South America’s most coveted assets.
The “Fluminense” Clause: A Race Against Time

The deal now hinges on a specific legal hurdle. As part of the initial transfer, Fluminense retained a “right of first refusal” (priority to purchase). The Rio de Janeiro club has until the end of today (February 4th) to match Palmeiras’ €25m offer.
If Fluminense fails to react, Arias who became a legend at the Maracanã wearing the number 21 will clear the path to join their rivals, Palmeiras. For the Colombian international, the move represents a chance to regain his status as a protagonist in a team competing for the Copa Libertadores, rather than battling a grim relegation fight in England.
