Inter Milan have reportedly identified Tottenham Hotspur’s Guglielmo Vicario as their primary target to succeed veteran goalkeeper Yann Sommer this summer.

Despite the winter window only recently closing, the Nerazzurri are already planning for the 2026/27 campaign. According to Italian transfer expert Nicolò Schira, Inter have opened preliminary talks with Vicario’s representatives to gauge the goalkeeper’s interest in a return to Serie A.

At 37, Yann Sommer remains a reliable figure at the San Siro, but Inter are aware that his time at the highest level is nearing its end. While Josep Martínez has provided cover this season, the Italian champions view Vicario as a long-term, elite solution.

Vicario, 29, has been an undisputed starter for Spurs since his arrival in London, earning a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most consistent shot-stoppers. However, the lure of returning to Italy and playing for the reigning Serie A holders could prove tempting for the former Empoli man.

The Azzurri Battle: Vicario vs Donnarumma

Vicario’s move could also be motivated by his international ambitions. Under the management of Gennaro Gattuso, the goalkeeper remains a fixture in the Italy squad. However, unseating Gianluigi Donnarumma (now at Manchester City) has proven difficult. A move back to Milan, the heart of Italian football, could provide the platform Vicario needs to finally challenge for the Azzurri No. 1 shirt.

Contract and Valuation

Securing Vicario will not be cheap. The goalkeeper is under contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until June 2028.

  • Current Market Value: €30 million
  • Estimated Asking Price: Tottenham are expected to demand significantly more, likely in the region of €45m-€50m, to let their star goalkeeper leave mid-project.
