Real Madrid will be without two key players for the first leg of their Champions League knockout play-off against Benfica. Forward Rodrygo and defender Raúl Asencio are both set to serve suspensions following their red cards in the final match of the League Phase.

In a dramatic conclusion to their last European outing a 4-2 defeat to the Portuguese side both players were sent off during stoppage time. These disciplinary setbacks leave manager Alvaro Arbeloa with tactical adjustments to make as Los Blancos head to the Estádio da Luz on February 17th.

For Rodrygo, the dismissal was a shock to fans and teammates alike. The Brazilian, known for his composure, took to social media to express his regret:

“I got carried away in the heat of the moment while complaining about time-wasting. That’s not who I am,” Rodrygo stated. “I have never been sent off playing for Real Madrid before and I am fully aware of the consequences. I apologize to the fans, my teammates, and the coach. We remain united in our fight for this badge.”
