Simone Inzaghi reacts to Inter’s UCL final defeat to PSG

Coach admits PSG’s superiority and reflects on Inter’s journey
Simone Inzaghi, head coach of Inter Milan, gave a candid and emotional interview after his side suffered a crushing 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 UEFA Champions League final at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
The match marked Inter’s second Champions League final defeat in three years, and the scale of the defeat stunned fans and pundits alike.
Inzaghi: “We didn’t look like the Inter we know”
“PSG are a very strong team. We started the game poorly, conceded quickly, and made things easy for them. This didn’t look like the Inter we saw [this season], and we know that. But I’m proud of the boys and what they achieved on the way here.”
Within just 20 minutes, PSG had already taken a 2-0 lead, with goals from Achraf Hakimi and Désiré Doué. In the second half, Doué struck again, followed by goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Warren Mayulu, completing the biggest margin of victory in a Champions League final in modern history.
Inzaghi: “We deserved to lose… but I thank the players”
Despite the one-sided result, Inzaghi praised the overall journey of his squad:
“There is great disappointment and bitterness, but the boys have come a long way. Paris were superior they were first to every second ball. Credit to them. We didn’t win any titles this season, but I thank the players for their effort.”
This match marked only the second time Inzaghi’s Inter have conceded four or more goals from open play under his management. The last was a 4-4 draw vs Juventus in October 2024.
Managerial Shake-Up Incoming? Al-Hilal Eyes Inzaghi
In the wake of this heavy loss, Simone Inzaghi’s future at Inter is uncertain. Reports suggest that Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal are pursuing him after parting ways with Jorge Jesus in April. Negotiations are said to be progressing quickly, and an agreement could be finalized before the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins June 14 in the United States.
If completed, Inzaghi could become the highest-paid football manager in the world.
What’s Next for Inter?
- No major titles in the 2024/25 season
- Champions League runners-up
- Inzaghi’s potential departure
- Rebuilding phase likely ahead of the Club World Cup
Despite the bitter ending, Inzaghi’s tenure has seen Inter consistently compete at Europe’s highest level a legacy that may yet continue elsewhere.
