Angers beat Strasbourg and guarantees its survival in Ligue 1
Thanks to an immense Esteban Lepaul performance, Angers secured their survival by beating Strasbourg (2-1) this Saturday, on matchday 33 of Ligue 1.
Despite their early control, Strasbourg were caught out by surprise by a powerful shot from Lepaul that resisted the recovery of two defenders (1-0, 15th). With their backs to the wall, the Alsatians tried to react but lacked precision with three shots from Doué, Lemaréchal and Bakwa. The visitors did not display their usual serenity in the race for Europe… but they equalized before the break through Bakwa, taking advantage of a mistake from Fofana (1-1, 43rd).
Just like in the first half, SCO struck hard after the break with a fine header from Lepaul at the near post (2-1, 48th). Could Liam Rosenior’s men get back into the game once again? Abdelli narrowly missed the break while Raolisoa hit the woodwork, giving Strasbourg hope. A hope that didn’t materialize with the equalizer. The end of a 12-match unbeaten run for RCSA but above all, survival assured for Angers!
