Manchester United are searching for a new manager after Ruben Amorim was sacked following a 1–1 draw against Leeds United last weekend. Among the potential candidates, Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi has reportedly expressed strong interest in taking over at Old Trafford.
The club, currently without a permanent manager, has yet to make a final decision, with several high-profile names circulating in the media.
De Zerbi’s Experience in England
De Zerbi, 46, previously managed Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League between the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, where he achieved 38 wins in 100 matches. His positive spell in English football has boosted his profile as a potential candidate for Manchester United.
The Italian coach is currently in charge of Olympique de Marseille, where he has won 35 of 60 matches, maintaining a win rate above 50% in French football.
Italian Coach Ready for the Challenge
According to TEAMtalk, De Zerbi feels ready to return to England and is eager for the challenge of managing one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs. At Marseille, he has already secured 14 victories in the first half of the current season, demonstrating his ability to deliver results.
De Zerbi’s managerial career began in 2015/16 with Foggia Calcio in Italy. He subsequently coached Palermo, Benevento, Sassuolo, and Shakhtar Donetsk before his stints at Brighton and Marseille, gaining experience across Europe’s top leagues.
Other Candidates Under Consideration
Manchester United are reportedly also considering Xavi Hernández, the former Barcelona manager. Xavi, 45, has been out of work since leaving Barcelona and has previously declined other club offers.
Amorim had been in charge at United since mid-last season, winning 8 of 21 matches this season and suffering 5 defeats, according to current records.
Manchester United Search Continues
As the Red Devils evaluate their options, the club faces a pivotal decision that could define the remainder of the European football season. Whether De Zerbi, Xavi, or another manager takes the helm, the next appointment will play a crucial role in restoring Manchester United’s competitive edge.
