Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz could be set for a sensational return to the Premier League, with former club Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest both monitoring his situation at Juventus.

According to reports from TEAMtalk, Juventus are prepared to cut ties with the 27-year-old just two seasons after his €50 million move to Turin. Despite the high expectations following his departure from Villa Park in 2024, the Brazilian has struggled to maintain a permanent spot in the Bianconeri starting XI, paving the way for a summer transfer.

An Emotional Reunion at Villa Park?

Aston Villa are reportedly “closely monitoring” the situation. Douglas Luiz is a fan favorite in Birmingham, having made 204 appearances for the club. With Unai Emery looking to bolster his midfield for another European campaign, the chance to bring back a player who already knows the system is seen as a low-risk, high-reward move.

However, the competition is fierce. Chelsea remains interested in the midfielder, and even Vasco da Gama in Brazil is dreaming of a romantic repatriation, though a stay in Europe remains the player’s priority.

While Nottingham Forest are in the mix for Douglas Luiz, the club is already preparing for a major squad overhaul. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side has reportedly secured the arrival of Italian striker Lorenzo Lucca on loan from Napoli.

The deal for Lucca includes a £35 million purchase option, signaling Forest’s intent to spend big regardless of whether they win the race for Douglas Luiz. The arrival of the towering Italian forward suggests Forest is looking to add more physicality to their attack, while still searching for a creative engine in midfield.

Financial Reality

Juventus are unlikely to recoup the full €50 million they paid in 2024, but they are eager to get his wages off the books. For Premier League clubs, a deal in the region of £30m–£35m could be enough to lure the Brazilian back to England. As the summer window approaches, Douglas Luiz is expected to be one of the most talked-about names in the market.
