Manchester United’s pursuit of Thomas Tuchel has hit a significant roadblock, as the England manager has reportedly refused to engage in any club negotiations until after the 2026 World Cup.

While the Red Devils have identified Tuchel as their primary target to lead the club next season, the German tactician is currently “100% focused” on his mission with the Three Lions. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Tuchel will not entertain any offers or hold meetings with United’s hierarchy until England’s campaign in North America concludes this July.

The Condition: World Cup Performance

Tuchel’s future at the club level depends heavily on what happens between June and July. If England delivers a historic performance, his stock will rise even further, potentially giving him more leverage in negotiations with INEOS and the Manchester United board.

Until then, United must rely on Michael Carrick, who has signed as interim manager until the end of the season. Carrick’s sole mission is to secure a top-four finish and return the club to the Champions League, providing a stable foundation for whoever takes the reins in August.

Tuchel’s Impressive Record with the Three Lions

Since taking charge in December 2024, Tuchel has transformed England into a winning machine. His statistics ahead of the World Cup are formidable:

Matches: 10

Wins: 9

Losses: 1

Win Rate: 90%

This elite form has made him the most coveted manager on the market, having already proven his pedigree at world-class clubs like Chelsea, PSG, and Bayern Munich.

World Cup Outlook: Group L

England enters the tournament as one of the heavy favorites. Tuchel’s men are placed in Group L and will begin their journey on June 17th in a high-stakes opener against Croatia. The group also includes Ghana and Panama, a set of fixtures that England is expected to navigate comfortably.

For Manchester United, the message is clear: the “Tuchel Era” can only begin once the “World Cup Dream” is either achieved or concluded.
