Manchester United and Chelsea are locked in a cross-competition battle to lure Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha back to the Premier League, according to Sky Sports Germany.

The 25-year-old midfielder has become a cornerstone of Dortmund’s tactical setup this season, delivering standout performances in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League. His “box-to-box” profile has now caught the eye of Michael Carrick at Old Trafford and Liam Rosenior at Stamford Bridge, both of whom are desperate for midfield reinforcements.

Dortmund’s Stance: New Contract on the Horizon

Despite Nmecha being under contract until 2028, BVB officials are reportedly working on a lucrative extension. The German club’s strategy is clear: increase his release clause and wage structure to ward off the financial power of English suitors. Discussions are expected to intensify immediately after the winter window closes in February.

Why the Premier League Wants Him

Nmecha is no stranger to English football. Having spent his formative years at Manchester City’s academy, he possesses the “Homegrown” status that is incredibly valuable for Premier League registration rules.

  • The Carrick Factor: Manchester United see him as the perfect athletic partner for Kobbie Mainoo.
  • The Chelsea Blueprint: After injuries to Romeo Lavia, Chelsea view Nmecha as a long-term solution for their midfield engine room.

A Return to His Roots?

While Nmecha recently described the Premier League as “special,” he remains focused on Dortmund’s title charge. However, with his brother Lukas Nmecha also playing in England (Leeds United), the family ties to the UK could play a decisive role if a formal bid of around £50m-£55m arrives in the summer.
