Manchester United have performed a dramatic U-turn regarding Kobbie Mainoo’s future, officially ruling out a January departure following the midfielder’s masterclass in the Manchester Derby.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 20-year-old is now considered a “key pillar” in Michael Carrick’s plans. Despite intense interest from Napoli who had been pushing for a loan deal since the start of the season the board has slammed the door on any potential exit.

The “Carrick Effect”

Mainoo’s situation changed overnight with the appointment of Michael Carrick. Under former manager Ruben Amorim, the academy graduate had struggled for minutes, failing to start a single Premier League match this season. However, Carrick’s arrival provided a clean slate.

“Manchester United won the derby with Mainoo delivering a fantastic and complete performance,” Romano revealed. “Because of this confidence, a loan is now out of the question. Mainoo is happy with the new staff and feels ready to play a major role in the second half of the season.”

A Crucial Second Half

With Carrick confirmed to lead the club until at least the end of the season, Mainoo is no longer worried about a lack of opportunities. His partnership with Casemiro provided the defensive stability and technical composure that United had been lacking earlier in the campaign. As the Red Devils look to climb the table, the “number 37” is poised to be the heartbeat of the midfield.
