Franco Mastantuono could be the next high-profile talent to leave Real Madrid for Serie A, as Inter Milan prepares an ambitious move for the Argentine youngster.

Despite arriving in Spain with massive expectations, Mastantuono has struggled to find his rhythm in Álvaro Arbeloa’s system. Critics have pointed to his lack of involvement in the final third, leading the Real Madrid board to consider a loan or a strategic sale in the upcoming summer window to ensure his development doesn’t stall.

The Oaktree Vision: A New Poster Boy

According to reports from CalcioMercato, Inter Milan’s owners, the Oaktree fund, are determined to land a “marquis” young signing. The objective is twofold:

  1. On-field quality: Strengthening a squad that remains a contender in Italy and Europe.
  2. Media Visibility: Using a world-class talent like Mastantuono to increase the club’s global brand appeal.

Inter’s interest is bolstered by the potential arrival of Nico Paz and the stellar form of Arda Güler, both of whom currently sit ahead of Mastantuono in the pecking order at the Bernabéu.

Real Madrid is reportedly open to a deal similar to the one that saw Nico Paz leave for Como:

  • Permanent Transfer with a Twist: A fixed buy-back option for Real Madrid.
  • Loan Alternative: A simple one-season loan to evaluate his adaptation to the tactical demands of Italian football.

A Test Under Arbeloa

While no formal negotiations have begun, the consensus in Madrid is that Mastantuono is not yet ready to be an undisputed starter. Arbeloa is expected to give the 18-year-old more opportunities in the final stretch of the season to determine whether he remains a part of the long-term project or if a move to the San Siro is the best path for all parties.
