Manchester United are already laying the groundwork for the upcoming transfer window, and while the club is focused on strengthening the squad, potential departures are also under discussion. One of the names drawing attention is academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo, who is reportedly keen on a move to Napoli.

Manchester United Assess Squad Under Amorim

Manchester United’s season has been marked by inconsistency, even as recent performances suggest gradual improvement. Internally, the club believes part of the issue lies with a squad that still does not fully suit Ruben Amorim’s tactical demands.

The Portuguese coach has made it clear he will not compromise on his playing style and wants to shape the team according to his philosophy. As a result, United’s hierarchy is actively working on transfer plans, both in terms of arrivals and exits.

United have already explored several options in the market. Antoine Semenyo was approached but chose to sign for Manchester City, while attention has now reportedly turned to Rúben Neves, who is expected to leave Al-Hilal and is open to a return to European football.

Mainoo Seeks Playing Time and Targets Napoli

Alongside incoming transfers, Manchester United are also considering loan moves for players seeking more regular minutes. Kobbie Mainoo is one such case. Since the previous transfer window, the midfielder has expressed a desire to be loaned out after struggling to secure a consistent starting role under Amorim.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Mainoo has attracted interest from multiple clubs but has made Napoli his preferred destination. The England international reportedly believes a move to Serie A would allow him to showcase his abilities and follow a similar path to former United players Rasmus Højlund and Scott McTominay, who have found success in Naples.

Jacobs adds that Mainoo does not want to leave Manchester United permanently. Instead, he sees a loan move as an opportunity to prove both the club’s board and Amorim wrong, hoping strong performances in Italy would change perceptions about his role at Old Trafford.

Contract Details and Season Stats

Kobbie Mainoo remains under contract with Manchester United until June 2027. According to Transfermarkt, the midfielder is currently valued at around €40 million.

This season, Mainoo has featured in 12 matches across all competitions—11 in the Premier League and one in the League Cup—registering one assist but no goals. With limited opportunities so far, the upcoming transfer window could be decisive for both his development and Manchester United’s midfield plans.
