LONDON – Arsenal is not just focused on the Women’s Club World Cup Final; the Gunners are also making waves in the transfer market. According to The Athletic, the North London club has officially expressed interest in signing Barcelona’s star full-back, Ona Batlle.

The 25-year-old Spanish international, widely considered one of the best defenders in the world, is facing an uncertain future at the Camp Nou as her contract nears its end.

Two Paths to North London

Arsenal is reportedly exploring two distinct strategies to secure Batlle’s signature:

  • Immediate Transfer: A late January move to bolster the squad for the remainder of the 2025/26 WSL season.
  • Free Agency: A pre-contract agreement for the defender to join as a free agent in the summer once her ties with Barcelona officially expire.

While talks are in the early stages, the prospect of Batlle returning to England is a major talking point. The full-back is already well-acquainted with the pace of the Women’s Super League, having been a standout performer for Manchester United between 2020 and 2023.

Batlle has been instrumental for the Blaugrana this season, featuring in 19 matches across the Women’s Champions League and Liga F. Her tactical flexibility and offensive threat from the flanks have made her an “irreplaceable” asset for the Catalan side, making Arsenal’s pursuit even more daring.

Focus on the World Title

Despite the transfer rumors, Arsenal’s immediate priority remains the Women’s Club World Cup Final. The Gunners will face Corinthians this Sunday at a sold-out Emirates Stadium. Securing a world title would only further enhance Arsenal’s appeal as they look to lure top talents like Batlle to London.
