BOURNEMOUTH – Manchester City Women showcased their title credentials this Sunday with a ruthless 6-0 demolition of Bournemouth in the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup. Despite playing away from home, Gareth Taylor’s side dominated from the first whistle to book their place in the next stage of the competition.

The deadlock was broken in the 19th minute by the league’s top scorer, Khadija “Bunny” Shaw, who clinical finish set the tone for the afternoon. While Bournemouth showed resilience for much of the first half, a catastrophic defensive collapse in the closing minutes saw City score three goals in just 180 seconds. Lauren Hemp and a quickfire brace from Laura Coombs effectively ended the contest before the halftime whistle.

Miedema Shines in the Second Half

With the game comfortably in hand, City maintained control throughout the second period. The highlight of the half was the performance of Vivianne Miedema. The Dutch international, who has been in sensational form since her move to Manchester, added two more goals to the tally, completing the 6-0 rout with trademark composure.

WSL Leaders Eyeing the Treble

Manchester City’s FA Cup progression comes amid a historic run in the Women’s Super League (WSL), where they currently sit six points clear of second-placed Chelsea. With the squad firing on all cylinders, fans are beginning to dream of a domestic treble.

City won’t have long to celebrate, however. Their focus now shifts to a massive mid-week clash.

Next Stop: League Cup Semi-Final

Manchester City will return to action this Wednesday, January 21, for a blockbuster Women’s League Cup semi-final against Chelsea. The match is scheduled for 7:00 PM (UK Time)  and is widely regarded as a “preview” of the WSL title decider.
