Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has revealed that several key players, including Brazilian sensation Estêvão, were hit by a sudden illness during the build-up to Sunday’s Premier League encounter with Crystal Palace.
Following their midweek victory over Pafos, the Blues’ preparations for the trip to Selhurst Park were disrupted as Estêvão, Jamie Gittens, and Enzo Fernández all fell unwell. Despite the setback, Rosenior confirmed that the trio is on the mend and should be available for selection.
Illness and Injury Management
“We had to be very careful because Estêvão and Gittens were quite ill,” Rosenior explained during his pre-match press conference. “It altered our plans during the week in terms of our tactical work, but fortunately, they are recovering their full health day by day.”
While the illness situation is improving, the club faces a major blow in midfield. Dário Essugo is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after a freak accident in training. “He slipped and suffered an unfortunate injury. We expect him to be out for more than a month,” the manager reported.

Boost for Cole Palmer
In better news for the Chelsea faithful, Cole Palmer is back in contention. After missing the European clash with a thigh strain, the England international has rejoined first-team training. Rosenior noted that they will assess his reaction before deciding if he starts against the Eagles.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen will miss the weekend’s action following an injury against Pafos, though he could return in time for the crucial showdown against Napoli. Midfielder Roméo Lavia remains a doubt as the club continues to manage his return to a consistent rhythm.
Predicted Chelsea XI (4-2-3-1)
According to latest reports, Chelsea could field a powerful attacking line if fitness tests are passed:
- GK: Robert Sánchez
- DEF: Reece James, Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Cucurella
- MID: Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Fernández
- ATT: Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Alejandro Garnacho
- FW: João Pedro
