Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick is set to take a central role in the club’s sporting recruitment this month. Following a sensational 2-0 victory over Manchester City in his debut, the board has granted Carrick a “vote of confidence” to influence the squad’s mid-season reinforcements.

The Strategic Meeting According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United’s top management (INEOS) has scheduled a high-level meeting with Carrick for the coming days. The goal is to align January priorities and identify market opportunities that fit Carrick’s tactical vision. While his contract currently runs until June 2026, the club views his assessment of the current environment as “crucial” for tactical adjustments.

A Dream Start at Old Trafford Carrick’s return to the dugout has already injected fresh hope into the Red Devils’ season. After Ruben Amorim’s exit, Carrick—who previously managed Middlesbrough—led United to a dominant derby win last Saturday. New signings Bryan Mbeumo (65’) and Patrick Dorgu (76’) secured the three points, proving that the squad already has the quality to compete at the highest level.

What’s Next for United? The challenge doesn’t get any easier. United currently sits 5th in the Premier League with 35 points and faces league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium this Sunday (Jan 25).

With the January window closing soon, the “Carrick effect” could be the deciding factor in whether United settles for the current squad or dives back into the market to secure a Champions League spot.
