Barcelona and Real Madrid will meet this Sunday (11) in the Spanish Super Cup final, with all eyes on two of world football’s biggest stars: Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal. Both players are expected to start, but recent numbers highlight a clear difference in their impact ahead of El Clásico.
Mbappé vs Yamal: the numbers before the final
According to data from SofaScore, Kylian Mbappé arrives at the Super Cup final with 29 goals this season, a striking 20-goal advantage over Barcelona’s young star Lamine Yamal, who has scored nine times. The French forward has also shown greater efficiency in one-on-one situations with goalkeepers, reinforcing his reputation as a decisive match-winner.
Yamal, however, brings a different type of influence. The 17-year-old winger leads in assists, with 10, compared to Mbappé’s four, underlining his creative importance in Barcelona’s attacking play.
Fitness concerns eased for both stars
The presence of both players in the final was uncertain until recently. Mbappé had been recovering from a left knee sprain, while Yamal was rested in Barcelona’s recent match against Athletic Bilbao.
Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso confirmed optimism after Mbappé returned to full training, suggesting the French striker would start following Madrid’s Super Cup semi-final win over Atlético de Madrid.
On the Barcelona side, Hansi Flick chose to rest Yamal against Athletic, giving Roony Bardghji a chance. The German coach has since stated that Yamal is fully fit and expected to return to the starting lineup for the final.
