Barcelona are weighing up the possibility of loaning out Marc Bernal during the January transfer window after the young midfielder struggled to secure regular playing time under head coach Hansi Flick.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the club believes a temporary move would allow the La Masia graduate to gain consistent first-team experience, which has been difficult at Camp Nou this season.
Strong Interest From La Liga Clubs
Several teams have already expressed interest in signing Bernal on loan. Among them is Girona, a club that maintains a strong working relationship with Barcelona and is seen as a favorable destination for developing young talent.
Girona have also been mentioned as a possible destination for Marc-André ter Stegen, further strengthening the institutional links between the two clubs and increasing the chances of a deal involving Bernal.
Fierce Competition in Barcelona’s Midfield
Bernal faces intense competition in one of the most crowded areas of the squad. Barcelona currently boast a midfield packed with elite options, including Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Marc Casadó, Fermín López, and Dani Olmo. In addition, Gavi is expected to return soon from injury, further limiting opportunities for the young Spaniard.
Given this depth, the coaching staff and sporting department agree that a loan spell would be the most logical step for Bernal’s development.
Barcelona Active in the Transfer Market
While Bernal’s future is being discussed, Barcelona remain active in the transfer market. The club is expected to officially announce João Cancelo following the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid.
Behind the scenes, Barcelona are also monitoring several center-back options, though no deals have been finalized. Sporting director Deco is expected to focus on defensive reinforcements during the summer transfer window.
