Arsenal have officially made contact with Atlético Madrid over the signing of Julián Alvarez, with the Gunners prepared to meet the staggering €100m (£84m) asking price to revitalize their attack.

According to reports from TalkSPORT, the Argentine World Cup winner has become the “number one priority” for Arsenal’s recruitment team heading into the summer window. The move comes after Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres struggled to find his best form at the Emirates, forcing Mikel Arteta to look for a world-class “nine” who can also operate across the frontline.

The Andrea Berta Connection

The deal is being spearheaded by a familiar face: Andrea Berta. Having played a key role in Alvarez’s move from Manchester City to Madrid in 2024, Berta is now reportedly leading the charge to bring him back to London. Although Alvarez is under contract at the Metropolitano until 2030, Atlético are open to a sale if their €100m valuation is met.

Gabriel Jesus: The End of the Road?

The pursuit of Alvarez signals a definitive shift for Gabriel Jesus. Despite a recent recovery in form, the Brazilian has struggled with injuries and inconsistent finishing since his arrival in 2022.

With his contract expiring in 2027, several giants are monitoring the situation:

  • Italy: Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus are all considering a summer move.
  • Brazil: Both Flamengo and Palmeiras are keeping a close watch on a potential “homecoming” deal for the 28-year-old.

The Barcelona Obstacle

Arsenal faces stiff competition from Barcelona, who view Alvarez as the “New Luis Suárez” and the natural heir to Robert Lewandowski. While the Catalan giants are currently leading La Liga, their ongoing financial fair play hurdles could give the Gunners a significant advantage in a straight bidding war.
