Recently dismissed by Chelsea, Enzo Maresca has emerged as a potential candidate to take over at Manchester United, as the club intensifies its search for a new manager following the departure of Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United Begin Managerial Search

Manchester United confirmed on Monday (5) that Ruben Amorim has been relieved of his duties. According to sources close to the club, the decision followed internal dissatisfaction with comments made by the Portuguese coach during a recent interview.

With Amorim gone, United’s board has moved quickly to assess replacement options and is expected to advance talks in the coming days as they look to stabilize the project.

Maresca Open to Taking Over at Old Trafford

Italian coach Enzo Maresca is among the names being considered. According to Team Talk, the former Chelsea manager is open to joining Manchester United and would not stand in the way of potential negotiations.

Maresca was recently sacked by Chelsea after disagreements with the club’s hierarchy, despite leaving with a strong win percentage. The coach is keen to remain in the Premier League and views the Manchester United role as a major opportunity.

Key Relationship Could Strengthen His Case

One factor working in Maresca’s favor is his prior relationship with Jason Wilcox, Manchester United’s current director of football. Wilcox reportedly holds a positive view of the Italian coach and believes he has the tactical profile and leadership qualities needed for the role.

That connection could prove important as United weigh up their shortlist.

No Formal Talks Yet

Despite the growing speculation, there are no active negotiations between Manchester United and Maresca at this stage. The club is still evaluating multiple candidates before deciding on its next move.

Darren Fletcher Appointed as Interim Manager

In the meantime, journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Darren Fletcher has been appointed as interim manager. Fletcher, who was already part of the coaching staff, will remain in charge until a permanent appointment is made.

As Manchester United assess their options, Enzo Maresca’s name is expected to stay firmly in the conversation as the club looks to define the next phase of its managerial project.
