Konaté in talks with Real Madrid

French center-back Ibrahima Konaté, one of Liverpool’s key defenders in recent seasons, could be heading for a move away from Anfield. The 24-year-old is in the final year of his contract, and Real Madrid is reportedly monitoring the situation closely, with international teammate Kylian Mbappé said to be encouraging him to move to Spain.

The possibility of a free transfer at the end of the season has delayed Konaté from signing a renewal, with other clubs including some from Saudi Arabia also showing interest.

Liverpool makes a new push

Determined to retain him, Liverpool has submitted a new contract proposal to Konaté’s agents, reportedly offering terms more competitive than Real Madrid’s. Previously, the Reds had considered signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace as a contingency if Konaté chose to leave, but the deal did not materialize.

Konaté has been a central figure for Liverpool since joining in 2021, appearing in 136 matches, scoring five goals, and providing four assists. He has contributed to the club’s success, including winning five titles in his tenure.

Upcoming Premier League fixture

Liverpool is currently perfect in the Premier League, winning all three matches so far this season. The Reds return to action Sunday, September 14, at 10:00 AM (Brasília time) against Burnley, aiming to maintain their 100% record.
