Real Madrid eyeing Saliba and Micky van de Ven as defensive reinforcements for 2026

The Merengues prioritize defensive reinforcements, considering Premier League stars William Saliba and Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven.

Real Madrid targets defensive overhaul

Real Madrid’s focus for the 2026 European season is strengthening its backline. William Saliba, the Arsenal defender, remains the club’s top priority. However, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Whites are also monitoring Micky van de Ven, Tottenham’s 24-year-old center-back, as an additional target.

Van de Ven, who signed from Wolfsburg in 2023, has impressed in Spurs’ defense with his strength, speed, and tactical awareness. The Dutchman previously spent two seasons with FC Volendam, where he began his professional career.

Current form and international presence

A regular starter for Tottenham, Van de Ven has played four games this season, scoring once. He has also been increasingly involved with the Dutch national team, appearing in the last two international matches. Real Madrid sees him as a versatile defensive option capable of contributing both domestically and in Europe.

Other defensive moves at Real Madrid

The club anticipates some departures from its current squad by 2026. David Alaba is reportedly not part of Xabi Alonso’s long-term plans but remained at the club this window by choice. Antonio Rüdiger faces uncertainty and has drawn interest from Saudi clubs, including Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal.

Meanwhile, speculation arose about Trent Alexander-Arnold moving to Manchester City, but the English right-back has ruled out a transfer, confirming his commitment to Real Madrid.
