Manchester United identifies Casemiro successor: Adam Wharton on Real Madrid and Liverpool’s radar

Manchester United are preparing for life after Casemiro. With the Brazilian midfielder now 33 and under contract until 2026, the Old Trafford board is already working on a replacement and Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace has emerged as the top target.
Adam Wharton valued at £60 million
According to CaughtOffside, Wharton is expected to leave Palace in 2026. His market value is currently £60 million (R$ 438 million), and Manchester United see him as the ideal profile to succeed Casemiro in the holding midfield role.
The 21-year-old has quickly risen in English football, praised for his defensive strength, combativeness, and passing range. Since joining Palace last season, he has played 49 matches, provided six assists, and lifted two trophies, including victories against Manchester City and Liverpool.
Liverpool and Real Madrid also in the race
United, however, face strong competition. Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso is a big admirer of Wharton, while Liverpool are also pushing to bring the young Englishman to Anfield. Both clubs are currently considered ahead of Manchester United in the race.
Casemiro’s uncertain future
Casemiro remains a key player under coach Ruben Amorim, having regained his starting spot despite early doubts. His contract runs until June 2026, but his future is far from certain.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia are monitoring his situation, while Flamengo and Palmeiras have also shown interest, though no official offers have been made.
For now, Manchester United’s challenge will be twofold: securing Wharton amid heavy competition and deciding Casemiro’s long-term role as the midfield transition looms.
