Injury Detected During FIFA Date

Barcelona may face a new setback after the September FIFA international break. Frenkie de Jong, 28, was injured during the Netherlands’ win over Poland in the World Cup qualifiers. He played 83 minutes before being replaced by Quinten Timber.

The Dutch federation confirmed this Friday (06) that the midfielder has left the training camp and will not play in the next qualifier, against Lithuania.

“Frenkie de Jong has left the Netherlands national team training center. The midfielder is not in sufficient physical condition after the match against Poland to play in the World Cup qualifier against Lithuania,” the Netherlands posted on social media.

Barcelona Awaits Medical Results

So far, Barcelona has not released details of the player’s condition. De Jong will be re-evaluated upon returning to Catalonia, and a medical update is expected in the coming days.

Before the break, he was a starter in Hansi Flick’s midfield, alongside Pedri and Dani Olmo, in the 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.

Contract and Importance at Barça

De Jong is in his seventh season with Barcelona, with a contract valid until 2026. A key figure in midfield, he is seen by the board and fans as a cornerstone for the future, and there is growing pressure for a renewal.

Next Barcelona Match

The club resumes La Liga on September 14, hosting Valencia at the Olímpic Lluís Companys. Depending on the severity of the injury, De Jong may not be available for this clash.
