De Paul praises Messi’s “winning mentality” ahead of the Copa de la Liga final between Inter Miami and Seattle Sounders

Inter Miami faces Seattle in the 2025 Leagues Cup final this Sunday, with Lionel Messi chasing his 47th career title.
The 2025 Leagues Cup reaches its climax this Sunday (31), as Inter Miami take on the Seattle Sounders at 9 pm (Brasília time). While Seattle arrives as the more experienced side in finals, much of the spotlight falls on Lionel Messi, who could add yet another trophy to his legendary career.
De Paul highlights Messi’s influence
Ahead of the final, Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul praised his national teammate, pointing to Messi’s mindset as a key factor for Inter Miami.
“We all know his winning mentality. It’s a great motivation for the youngsters and for the whole team. Winning gives you energy, and it’s something you always want to repeat. Tomorrow could be a great joy for all of us,” De Paul told reporters.
Coach Javier Mascherano also confirmed that only Allen Obando is unavailable due to injury, with Messi fit and ready. “Messi is fine… Once again, he made the difference against Orlando. I’m happy for him and the way he finished the match,” said the Inter Miami boss.
Seattle’s challenge
The Sounders have been one of the most consistent teams in the competition, scoring heavily throughout the tournament. De Paul acknowledged the difficulty of the matchup:
“We know our opponents very well, they had a great tournament and scored a lot of goals… Tomorrow is a final, and I will give everything to win it. When a trophy is at stake, my only thought is to enjoy it.”
Messi’s record on the line
Messi has already lifted two trophies with Inter Miami: the Leagues Cup in 2023 and the MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2024. Winning again on Sunday would extend his staggering record to 47 official titles, further cementing his status as the most decorated footballer in history.
