Confidence ahead of clash in Konya

Real Madrid midfielder Arda Güler expressed optimism before Turkey’s decisive meeting with Spain in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the 19-year-old praised Lamine Yamal, but insisted that Turkey also has the quality to challenge one of Europe’s strongest national teams.

“I’m not surprised by what Lamine Yamal is doing, he has enormous talent. But our team also has great potential, and we’ll play with confidence,” said Güler.

Talks with Madrid teammates

The Turkish star revealed he had conversations with Dani Carvajal and Dean Huijsen, his Real Madrid teammates, about the clash in Konya. According to him, the atmosphere within the Turkish squad is one of ambition.

“I told them it will be a tough match. I hope to return to Madrid as a winner,” he added.

Spain’s possession vs. Turkey’s intensity

Güler acknowledged that Spain usually dominates possession but assured that Turkey’s strategy will be based on pressure and intensity.

“We know Spain will have more of the ball, but we’ll press and try to impose our style of play,” he explained.

Spain arrive with an unbeaten streak, but the young Turk reinforced his side’s determination:

“We respect Spain, but we know what we need to do. We’re ready.”

High-stakes qualifier

The game is crucial for the leadership of the group in the qualifiers. With both nations targeting a direct spot in the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, the duel in Konya promises to be decisive.
