Rodri is close to returning to the pitch for Manchester City, confirms Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola confirmed that Rodri is nearing his return to action, a major boost for Manchester City as the new season unfolds.
Recovery process after Club World Cup injury
The Spanish midfielder suffered a groin injury during the Club World Cup defeat to Al-Hilal earlier this summer. Since then, his recovery has been carefully managed by City’s medical staff to avoid relapses.
During pre-season, doubts grew over his availability, but his return to light training raised hopes among fans. Guardiola now insists Rodri is “very close” to being back on the pitch.
Guardiola praises Rodri’s importance
“He was named the best player in the world last season,” Guardiola reminded reporters. “That’s why it’s crucial to have him back. His ambition, personality and qualities are essential for us.”
The manager highlighted that Rodri’s presence in training already lifts the squad’s morale. However, he stressed that his return will be gradual, with minutes carefully managed in the coming matches.
Return will be managed step by step
“First a few minutes, then more minutes, rest for a day, then play again. That’s the hardest part—determining exactly what’s best for him,” Guardiola explained.
With the Premier League, League Cup and Champions League challenges ahead, City will prioritize Rodri’s long-term fitness rather than rushing him back too soon.
