Real Madrid moves away from Enzo Fernández and looks to Rúben Neves as a midfield reinforcement

Portuguese star from Al-Hilal emerges as a cost-effective alternative for Florentino Pérez

Real Madrid has shifted its focus in the transfer market, moving away from Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández due to the high asking price and setting sights on a more affordable yet experienced option Rúben Neves of Al-Hilal.

According to Transfer Feed, the Portuguese midfielder could become a prime target for the Spanish giants if he chooses not to extend his contract with the Saudi Pro League club. Neves, 28, has been one of Al-Hilal’s standout performers over the past two seasons, delivering consistent displays and contributing significantly to the team’s attack.

Midfield Search Intensifies After Kroos and Modric Exits

The need for reinforcements in Madrid’s midfield has grown urgent following the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. While Fernández was initially high on the list, Chelsea’s demands proved too steep for Florentino Pérez, prompting a pivot toward more financially viable options.

Neves fits the bill last season alone, he played 42 matches for Al-Hilal, scoring twice and providing 12 assists. His vision, set-piece ability, and leadership have kept him in the spotlight since his breakthrough at FC Porto and subsequent six-year spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A Proven Track Record Across Leagues

Since joining Al-Hilal, Neves has racked up 96 appearances, directly contributing to 37 goals. His consistent output in both European and Middle Eastern football makes him a low-risk acquisition compared to other big-name targets such as Rodri or Vitinha both valued at over €100 million.

Madrid’s Transfer Plans Beyond Midfield

Real Madrid’s transfer activity is not limited to midfield reinforcements. With Rodrygo potentially on the move, the club is also exploring options for another winger. One of the latest names linked to the Bernabéu is Portuguese forward Rodrigo Mora from Porto.

While no official negotiations have been confirmed, the interest in Rúben Neves signals a possible strategic shift in Madrid’s summer transfer policy balancing proven quality with financial prudence as they prepare for the upcoming European season.
