Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City is monitoring Grêmio midfielder Bernardo Zortea

Manchester City are closely tracking the progress of Grêmio’s teenage midfielder Bernardo Zortea as part of their ongoing global scouting push, with Brazilian football emerging as one of their key focus areas.

Following a summer spending spree of €177 million to sign six new players after last season’s disappointments, Pep Guardiola’s side continues to search for emerging talents who could strengthen the squad in the future.

One of Grêmio’s Brightest Prospects

According to Rádio Bandeirantes, Zortea, 18, has caught City’s attention with his performances across multiple competitions, including the Copinha, Gauchão, and Brazilian Under-20 Championship. The defensive midfielder featured in 27 matches, scoring once and providing one assist.

Born in Pinhalzinho, Santa Catarina, Zortea is considered one of the brightest talents in Grêmio’s youth academy. He is under contract with the Porto Alegre club until June 2026.

City’s Next Matches

Manchester City’s preseason schedule is brief, with only one friendly against Palermo on Saturday (9 August) at the Renzo Barbera Stadium before the Premier League opener on 16 August against Vítor Pereira’s Wolverhampton.
