AC Milan eyeing the signing of veteran Bayer Levekusen midfielder Granit Xhaka

AC Milan are considering a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s veteran midfielder Granit Xhaka as part of new coach Massimiliano Allegri’s push to blend experience with youth in the squad.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, the Serie A club is in the early stages of assessing a potential deal for the 32-year-old Swiss international, who turns 33 in September. Xhaka is under contract with the Bundesliga champions until June 2028, but could be available if Leverkusen’s financial and sporting demands are met. No formal contact has yet been made between the clubs.
Key Role in Leverkusen’s Historic Season
Under coach Xabi Alonso, Xhaka was instrumental in Leverkusen’s 2024/25 treble-winning campaign, making 49 appearances, scoring two goals, and providing seven assists. Known for his leadership and control in midfield, the former Arsenal and Borussia Mönchengladbach player remains a cornerstone of the Swiss national team.
Part of Allegri’s Overhaul
Milan view Xhaka’s leadership as a valuable asset to support the club’s younger talents. His potential arrival would follow the signing of Luka Modrić, with the 38-year-old Croatian set to undergo a medical next week after agreeing terms with the Rossoneri.
The board believes the addition of seasoned internationals will boost Milan’s competitiveness in Serie A and European competitions as they target a return to the Champions League.
