Out for 19 months, Sam Kerr trains with Chelsea and the Australian could return to the field soon

Sam Kerr is finally close to returning for Chelsea. After spending 19 months sidelined with a serious injury, the Australian striker has resumed full training with the squad and could soon be back on the pitch.
Boost for Chelsea’s new season
Chelsea, current Women’s Super League champions, are preparing for the new campaign starting in September. While aiming to maintain domestic dominance, the London club also sees winning the Women’s Champions League as a top priority, especially after rivals Arsenal lifted the trophy last season.
To achieve this, the Blues have reinforced their squad with new signings — and now count on the long-awaited return of one of their biggest stars.
Sam Kerr speaks after return
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Kerr admitted how difficult her time away from the pitch has been:
“During an injury, you’re very much on your own. So it’s nice to be back with the girls, just doing the same training sessions as them, instead of solitary rehab sessions. Being in a preseason like this helps you get to know all the new faces.”
Key date set
Chelsea return to action in the WSL on September 5, facing Manchester City in a highly anticipated clash. If her recovery continues smoothly, Kerr could feature in the London side’s debut and boost their chances of starting the season with a statement victory.
