Negotiations between City and West Ham could involve a swap deal between Grealish and Paquetá

Manchester City have reportedly opened talks with West Ham United over a potential swap deal involving Jack Grealish and Lucas Paquetá, as the Premier League champions seek to bolster their midfield ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, Sky Sports reports.

Paquetá Cleared, City Reignite Longstanding Interest

With Lucas Paquetá expected to be cleared of betting-related charges, City manager Pep Guardiola is once again targeting the 27-year-old Brazilian. Paquetá has been on Guardiola’s radar since 2022, and now that legal issues no longer obstruct his path, a move appears increasingly feasible.

Since joining West Ham in 2022, Paquetá has made 120 appearances and scored 18 goals. He remains under contract at the London Stadium until June 2027, giving the Hammers firm negotiating power.

Jack Grealish Offered in Swap

To sweeten the deal, Jack Grealish could be included as a direct replacement for Paquetá. The 29-year-old winger has struggled to secure a consistent role under Guardiola and may be open to a new challenge. Grealish, who joined City in 2021 for a British-record fee, has scored 17 goals in 157 matches for the club.

talkSPORT confirms West Ham’s interest in the former Aston Villa star, viewing him as a ready-made asset to maintain creativity in midfield if Paquetá departs.

City’s Summer Overhaul Targets Premier League Glory

After falling short of the title last season, Manchester City are undergoing a major squad refresh with the clear aim of reclaiming the Premier League. New arrivals this summer include Rayan Aït-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, Sverre Nypan, and Marcus Bettinelli a mix of emerging talent and experienced depth.

Guardiola’s men have already secured a Champions League spot and remain in contention across all fronts for 2025/26. However, the competition from Arsenal and Liverpool is expected to intensify, prompting City to accelerate deals before the transfer window closes on September 1st.
