Napoli beats Cagliari to stay perfect in Serie A

Frank Anguissa scores in stoppage time as Conte’s side secures dramatic victory; Roma and Cremonese also maintain 100% start.

Napoli, the reigning Serie A champions, left it late but managed to claim a crucial 1-0 win over Cagliari in the second round of the Italian league. At the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, Antonio Conte’s men dominated throughout but had to wait until the 95th minute, when Frank Anguissa finally broke the deadlock to seal three points.

Conte’s Side Struggle to Break Through

The hosts created several chances but were repeatedly denied by Cagliari goalkeeper Elia Aprile, who made decisive saves against Scott McTominay and Leonardo Spinazzola. Just when it seemed Napoli would be held to a frustrating draw, Anguissa found the net deep into stoppage time, sparking celebrations in Naples.

Standing at the Top

With the win, Napoli climbed to the top of the table with six points, while waiting for the results of Inter Milan against Udinese and Juventus away at Genoa. For now, they share the lead with Cremonese, who beat Sassuolo 3-2 on Friday, and Roma, also on six points.

Roma, Atalanta, and Bologna Updates

Roma continued their strong start with a win over newly promoted Pisa, making it two wins from two under Gian Piero Gasperini.

Atalanta, Gasperini’s former club, remain winless after drawing 1-1 with Parma, leaving them in ninth place with two points from their opening matches.

Elsewhere, Bologna defeated Como 1-0, pushing the newcomers down to seventh in the table with three points.

Early Season Shape

Two rounds into the season, Napoli remain firm contenders to defend their crown, but Conte’s men were reminded of the challenges ahead. With Inter and Juventus yet to play, the fight at the top of Serie A is already heating up.
