Milan lose to Cremonese in Serie A debut

AC Milan started their Serie A campaign with a bitter setback. Playing at San Siro this Saturday (August 23), the Rossoneri were defeated 2–1 by newly promoted Cremonese, in one of the first big surprises of the season.

A Match Full of Drama

Cremonese opened the scoring in the 28th minute with Federico Baschirotto’s header after a poorly defended corner. Milan reacted before halftime, when Pervis Estupiñán set up Strahinja Pavlović for the equalizer in stoppage time.

But the visitors struck again in the 63rd minute. Federico Bonazzoli scored with an acrobatic overhead kick, leaving the home crowd stunned and forcing Milan to chase the game. Despite dominating possession and creating chances, Milan failed to break through thanks to key saves from goalkeeper Emil Audero.

A Historic Win for Cremonese

The victory marks Cremonese’s first away win against Milan in decades and sends a strong message that the Lombardy side intends to fight hard in Serie A this season. For Milan, however, the defeat highlights defensive lapses and raises questions about consistency at the start of their campaign.

Head-to-Head Balance

  • Last season, the two sides drew in both encounters (0–0 and 1–1).
  • Historically, matches between Milan and Cremonese have often been balanced, with a surprising number of draws.
