Meet Lennart Karl, the Bayern Munich gem who impressed Harry Kane

Bayern Munich’s latest teenage sensation, Lennart Karl, is making waves in preseason training and has already impressed the club’s marquee striker, Harry Kane. Head coach Vincent Kompany has handed the 17-year-old midfielder more opportunities ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, following his professional debut at last season’s FIFA Club World Cup.

Karl, born in 2008, is widely regarded as one of Bayern’s most promising prospects of the century. The club is working carefully to protect him from excessive pressure, despite mounting excitement among fans. Kane echoed that sentiment, praising the youngster’s talent while stressing the need to allow him to develop at his own pace.

Breakthrough Performances

A left-footed midfielder standing 1.70m tall, Karl has already competed above his age group, representing Germany at the U-19 European Championship and featuring in Bayern’s youth sides. In 2024, he scored seven goals in 12 appearances for the U-19s  an impressive return for a midfielder.

During the current preseason, Karl has found the net once in three first-team outings, showing composure and technical skill beyond his years.

Eyeing Competitive Debut in 2025/26

With Kompany open to integrating youth talent, Karl is expected to get minutes in the Bundesliga and possibly the Champions League. His next chance could come as early as Saturday, August 16, when Bayern face Stuttgart in the German Super Cup a potential stage for his first official match of the season.
