Manchester United wants a permanent deal to release Antony to Benfica

Manchester United have told Benfica they will only approve a deal for Brazilian winger Antony if it is a permanent transfer worth €46.1 million, sources in Portugal report. The Premier League club is actively looking to offload the 24-year-old, who is no longer in manager Erik ten Hag’s plans.

Benfica Want Loan, United Demand Sale

Talks between the clubs are ongoing, but there is a major sticking point: Benfica want a season-long loan with a shared salary arrangement, while United are pushing for an outright sale. The Portuguese champions view Antony as a potential impact signing but consider the asking price too high.

Antony’s Preference and Other Suitors

After a successful loan spell at Real Betis, Antony had publicly expressed a desire to return to Spain. However, Betis cannot match United’s valuation. Other European clubs, including Bayer Leverkusen and Atlético Madrid, have also made enquiries about the Brazilian’s availability.

Possible Change in United’s Stance

With limited interest in a permanent deal at their current price, United may be forced to reconsider their position and agree to another loan before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Antony joined Manchester United from Ajax in 2022 for a reported €95 million, but he has struggled to consistently secure a place in the starting XI, leading to speculation over his long-term future at Old Trafford.
