Manchester City extend Codie Thomas’ contract ahead of WSL season

Manchester City defender Codie Thomas has signed a new deal until 2027, as the club prepares for what it hopes will be its most successful campaign in recent years. The 19-year-old academy graduate is expected to earn more minutes this season as City targets a return to the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The contract extension is part of City’s broader strategy to consolidate its squad ahead of the Women’s Super League (WSL). Alongside recent signings, the club prioritized retaining key players such as Brazilian forward Kerolin, while also investing in homegrown talent like Thomas.
Thomas has been with City since 2016, progressing through the youth ranks before making her first-team debut in October 2024 during a Champions League clash against St. Pölten.
Codie Thomas: “A Dream Come True”
Speaking to the club’s official channels, Thomas expressed pride at extending her stay:
“I’ve been watching City since I was little, and now I’m here—it’s like a dream come true. The environment is incredible, because you can progress in all areas of life and it’s always challenging every day. It was a huge step moving into the first team, with more physical demands and higher intensity.”
Her development is viewed internally as a sign of City’s academy strength, with the coaching staff confident she can become a regular contributor.
Season Opener Against Chelsea
Manchester City will begin their WSL campaign against Chelsea on September 5 at 3:30 p.m. (Brasília time). The match will provide an early test of the team’s credentials in a season where the main target is to reclaim a Champions League spot and challenge for the domestic title.
