Manchester City close to selling Manuel Akanji to Milan as negotiations progress

Manchester City are advancing talks with AC Milan over the transfer of defender Manuel Akanji, with the deal now depending on the player’s decision.

With the transfer window set to close on September 2, City are restructuring their squad for the 2025/26 season and are on the verge of confirming another departure. According to Fabrizio Romano, Milan have requested updated details of the negotiation, and optimism is growing between both clubs.

Akanji’s future in his own hands

Although the two clubs are aligning terms, the final step lies with Akanji. The Swiss international will be contacted to define his personal conditions with Milan, which will determine whether the transfer is completed. New talks are expected to take place on Friday (29).

Milan’s defensive market strategy

Milan’s pursuit of Akanji is part of a broader plan to reinforce their defensive line. The Rossoneri are also exploring other targets, including Jakub Kiwior, who has attracted attention from Porto as well.

If completed, the move would mark a significant reshuffle for Pep Guardiola’s side, while offering Milan an experienced addition to strengthen their backline.
