Liverpool faced Crystal Palace as they await Alexander Isak in a deal worth over £120 million

Newcastle striker is Reds’ top transfer target after Darwin Núñez’s move to Al-Hilal
Liverpool will take on Crystal Palace in the FA Community Shield final while awaiting the conclusion of a blockbuster move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal is “very likely” despite ongoing negotiations, with a total value expected to surpass R$900 million (£120m) including add-ons.
Isak has already reached a verbal agreement with Liverpool and is considered manager Arne Slot’s top priority this summer ahead of Real Madrid’s Rodrygo and PSG’s Bradley Barcola. The Swedish forward is seen as the ideal fit for Slot’s high-tempo attacking system.
Newcastle Hold Out for Replacement
Newcastle, however, are refusing to release the 24-year-old until they secure a top-tier replacement. Their first-choice target is PSG’s Randal Kolo Muani, though Juventus where the Frenchman spent last season on loan are pushing to sign him permanently. PSG, who have no plans to keep Kolo Muani, remain open to a sale.
If they cannot land Kolo Muani, Newcastle are keeping other attacking options in reserve. The club aims to finalise their incoming transfer and Isak’s departure before the end of August.
Isak’s Value and Record
The Magpies value Isak at a minimum of £120m, with performance-related bonuses potentially increasing the fee. Newcastle view him as one of Europe’s elite strikers after his standout 2023–24 season, in which he scored 23 Premier League goals, finishing second in the Golden Boot race.
The transfer would mark one of Liverpool’s most expensive signings in history, following Darwin Núñez’s recent departure to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
