Leaving Chelsea, Sterling gives positive signal to sign with Crystal Palace

Raheem Sterling could be on his way to Crystal Palace after the Chelsea winger gave a positive signal to the London club regarding a potential transfer. Out of Enzo Maresca’s plans for the 2025/26 season, Sterling has been officially put on the market by Chelsea, who are open to a loan deal with a shared salary arrangement.

Chelsea, Palace Engage in Preliminary Talks

According to TBR Football, Crystal Palace has formally approached Chelsea to inquire about the 29-year-old forward. Sterling, keen to remain in London, has already expressed interest in the project under Palace’s new management.

The winger’s preference to avoid relocating was reportedly a decisive factor in his willingness to consider a switch to Selhurst Park. With Sterling giving the green light, both clubs are expected to begin negotiations over salary coverage and possible loan fees.

Sterling’s Struggles at Chelsea and Arsenal

Sterling joined Chelsea in 2022 from Manchester City in a high-profile move, but has since struggled to find form. Last season, he was loaned out to Arsenal, where he made 28 appearances, scoring just one goal and providing five assists under Mikel Arteta.

Despite hopes of a revival, the forward failed to meet expectations and was not retained by the Gunners. Now back at Stamford Bridge, Sterling remains surplus to requirements at Chelsea, who are eager to reduce their wage bill.

Contract Situation and Next Steps

Sterling remains one of Chelsea’s highest earners and has shown reluctance to accept a pay cut or agree to a mutual contract termination. This has complicated his departure, but a loan move within London now appears to be the most viable solution.

While personal terms with Palace are not expected to be a major hurdle, finalizing the deal will depend on how much of Sterling’s salary Chelsea is willing to cover.

Sterling’s next move could bring a fresh start after two underwhelming seasons, with Crystal Palace offering him a chance to reboot his Premier League career in a familiar city.
