Julián Alvarez considers leaving Atlético de Madrid for a team with better La Liga performance

Julián Álvarez is considering leaving Atlético de Madrid if the club’s sporting project does not become more competitive, according to El Nacional. The Argentine striker, who scored a brilliant free-kick on his La Liga debut, is frustrated by the team’s lack of results and absence of titles.

Unhappy with Atlético’s trajectory

Álvarez ended last season without lifting a trophy a first in his career. Sources close to the player suggest he wants to fight for major titles and finals, something he does not see happening under Atlético’s current project. While he will stay with Diego Simeone’s squad for this campaign, the 25-year-old could push for a move in the near future.

Barcelona interested in opportunity

Across Spain, Barcelona are closely monitoring Álvarez’s situation. President Joan Laporta views him as the perfect long-term striker for the club. Although there have been no official approaches, German coach Hansi Flick has already approved the potential signing.

Flick reportedly values Álvarez’s versatility, mobility, and ability to exploit space — qualities that could complement wingers Raphinha and Lamine Yamal. For the Argentine, a move to Camp Nou is seen as a “beneficial agreement,” and he would not stand in the way if Barcelona make an official offer.

Transfer cost remains obstacle

Álvarez’s market value currently stands at €100 million, but Atlético Madrid would demand significantly more to part ways with their star forward. With the transfer window nearing its close, a deal this summer appears unlikely. However, his dissatisfaction could spark new negotiations in upcoming windows.
