Jadon Sancho agrees to halve his salary to sign with Borussia Dortmund

Jadon Sancho has taken a decisive step toward a permanent return to Borussia Dortmund, agreeing to cut his salary by 50% to facilitate the move. The winger, who currently earns €16 million per season at Manchester United, has informed the German club he is willing to accept an annual wage of €8 million, according to a report from BILD.

Sancho’s pay cut marks a major turning point in negotiations that had previously stalled due to financial concerns. The 25-year-old spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Dortmund, where he delivered standout performances and played a key role in the club’s run to the UEFA Champions League final.

Talks Ongoing Between Manchester United and Dortmund

Despite the player’s clear commitment, no deal has yet been finalized between Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund. The German side remains cautious about the overall financial package, which includes a prospective transfer fee on top of Sancho’s wages.

However, the English forward’s decision to voluntarily reduce his salary is viewed internally as a crucial gesture of goodwill that could pave the way for a breakthrough. Sources close to the matter suggest Dortmund are evaluating new scenarios to make the deal financially viable.

Sancho’s Struggles in England

Sancho joined Manchester United in 2021 for €85 million, but failed to consistently impress in the Premier League. After a series of underwhelming performances and clashes with management, he lost his place in Erik ten Hag’s squad.

The former Manchester City academy graduate was later loaned to Chelsea but similarly struggled to find rhythm or form during his stint in London.

Looking Ahead

With Dortmund now preparing for the new Bundesliga season and seeking continuity in attack, Sancho’s return would be seen as both a fan-favorite move and a strategic reinforcement. The club’s leadership is expected to accelerate talks in the coming days, with a final decision likely before the end of the summer transfer window.
