Gerard Martín rejects Premier League offer and wants to stay at Barcelona

Barcelona left-back Gerard Martín has turned down an offer from the Premier League, opting instead to continue his development at Camp Nou. The 23-year-old, a product of La Masia, remains the immediate backup to starter Alejandro Balde in Hansi Flick’s squad.

Martín Declines English Interest

According to journalist José Álvarez (El Chiringuito), Martín received a “significant offer” from an unnamed Premier League club, but rejected the approach. His priority is to stay at Barcelona and fight for minutes despite limited opportunities.

The defender was linked with a summer exit, yet he views remaining at his boyhood club as the best option for his career progression.

Barcelona’s Transfer Activity

Barcelona’s summer has already seen notable movement:

  • Arrivals: Goalkeeper Joan García (Espanyol) and striker Marcus Rashford (on loan from Manchester United).
  • Departures: Experienced defender Iñigo Martínez, who left for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

With Martínez’s exit, Ronald Araújo is expected to reclaim his place in central defense alongside Pau Cubarsí.

Marc Casadó Could Be Sold

While Martín is staying, defensive midfielder Marc Casadó could leave. The 20-year-old is valued at around €30 million (R$191.8 million), and Barcelona is open to offers as they continue to manage their financial challenges. Clubs from the Premier League and Serie A are reportedly monitoring his situation.

Limited Roles in Flick’s Project

Both Martín and Casadó spent much of last season as substitutes. With Frenkie de Jong and Pedri starting the La Liga opener against Mallorca, opportunities appear limited for the youngsters in the 2025/26 campaign.

Still, Martín’s commitment ensures Flick retains depth at left-back, while Casadó’s future remains uncertain as the transfer deadline approaches on September 1st.
