Dembélé misses penalty, but PSG beat Angers and stay top of Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain maintained their perfect start to the Ligue 1 season, defeating Angers 1–0 on Friday (22) at the Parc des Princes. Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances, Luis Enrique’s side lacked precision in front of goal. Ousmane Dembélé squandered a first-half penalty, but Fabián Ruiz’s strike early in the second half proved enough to seal the victory.

Missed Penalty Highlights PSG’s Struggles

PSG controlled the opening 45 minutes but failed to capitalize. The best opportunity came midway through the half when João Neves was fouled inside the box. Dembélé stepped up but fired his spot-kick over the bar, wasting the chance to put the hosts ahead.

The miss set the tone for the night, as Les Parisiens constantly pressed Angers yet found themselves frustrated by poor finishing and the safe hands of goalkeeper Herve Koffi.

Fabián Ruiz Breaks the Deadlock

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 47th minute. After sustained pressure, Fabián Ruiz collected the ball inside the box and drilled a right-footed effort past Koffi to make it 1–0.

PSG continued to dominate, but Angers nearly snatched an equalizer in the 68th minute when Belkhdim latched onto a cross, sending his shot just wide of the post. The scare reignited PSG’s urgency, with Ruiz almost doubling his tally shortly after, but his strike drifted inches off target.

PSG on Top, Angers Fall Back

With the narrow win, PSG climb to six points from two matches, temporarily leading Ligue 1 with back-to-back victories. Angers, who had opened their campaign with a win, remain mid-table with three points after their first defeat.

Luis Enrique fielded his strongest lineup, featuring Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and João Neves, but admitted post-match that his side “must be more clinical” to turn dominance into convincing scorelines.
