Besiktas’ interest in Maguire increases pressure on Manchester United

Manchester United’s Harry Maguire could be on the move in January, as Turkish and French giants intensify their interest in the defender, whose future at Old Trafford remains uncertain despite a recent contract extension.

According to sources close to the club, United rejected five formal transfer offers for Maguire during the last summer window, underlining their preference to keep the English centre-back. However, clubs such as Besiktas, Fenerbahçe, and Galatasaray remain persistent, hoping to convince both Maguire and the club ahead of the January transfer window.

Besiktas Ready to Bid for January Deal

Besiktas, one of Turkey’s most historic clubs, is leading the charge. The club is reportedly preparing a strong proposal to land the 31-year-old defender, who remains a valuable but non-guaranteed starter in Erik ten Hag’s setup.

Although Maguire played a crucial role in last season’s Europa League campaign, including scoring a key goal against Lyon, his long-term status at United is unclear.

United Activated Contract Extension, But Door Remains Open

Manchester United exercised a one-year extension option in January, securing Maguire’s services until the summer of 2026. Club officials have publicly stated their intent to retain the England international, highlighting his leadership and depth in central defense.

Yet, insiders note that the Red Devils could reconsider their stance if a compelling offer emerges especially from clubs outside the Premier League.

More Turkish and French Clubs Join the Race

Beyond Besiktas, Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray are also in contention. Both Turkish sides are in the market for defensive reinforcements and have reportedly contacted Maguire’s representatives about a potential deal.

Meanwhile, in France, Monaco and Marseille are also closely monitoring the situation. With both clubs aiming to bolster their backline ahead of a competitive second half of the Ligue 1 season, Maguire is seen as an experienced and physically commanding option.

January Transfer Window Will Be Pivotal

With multiple clubs pushing behind the scenes, January could prove to be a decisive month for Maguire’s career. The final decision is expected to rest on the player’s desire for consistent minutes and United’s willingness to cash in rather than let a valuable asset’s role stagnate.
