Bayern Munich eyeing Rico Lewis, but Manchester City star rejects approach

Bayern Munich have expressed interest in signing Manchester City full-back Rico Lewis, but the 19-year-old has made it clear he has no plans to leave the Etihad this summer.

Bayern’s pursuit falls short

According to TBR Football, the German champions explored the possibility of bringing in Lewis as part of their defensive rebuild. Bayern’s board made several enquiries about his availability, viewing him as a long-term solution at right-back after already splashing out on reinforcements such as Luis Díaz.

However, their approach was quickly dismissed. Lewis rejected the idea of a transfer, insisting he wants to fight for a place under Pep Guardiola. Manchester City themselves are also unwilling to negotiate, reaffirming the youngster’s importance for the club’s future.

City block Bayern’s hopes

The Premier League champions recently turned down a €30 million offer from Nottingham Forest for Lewis. Club officials remain convinced that the teenager can grow into a first-team regular, and Guardiola is expected to give him more opportunities this season.

Why Bayern wanted him

Bayern’s interest reflects their strategy of blending experienced stars with emerging talent. With uncertainty surrounding their defensive depth, Lewis was identified as an ideal fit—young, versatile, and already Champions League-tested.

Player focused on Manchester City

Despite foreign interest, Lewis believes staying at City is the best step for his development. With a congested calendar and Guardiola rotating his squad more frequently, the full-back expects to play a bigger role in 2025.
