Barcelona’s Fermín López could earn €15 million per year at Chelsea as Deco sets €70M price tag
The future of Fermín López at Barcelona is increasingly uncertain. The 22-year-old midfielder, one of the brightest talents to emerge from La Masia, has attracted strong interest from Chelsea, who are prepared to make him one of the best-paid players in their squad.
Chelsea’s millionaire offer
According to Partidazo COPE, Fermín currently earns around €6 million per year at Barcelona. Chelsea, however, are willing to more than double that figure, offering a salary of €15 million annually about R$94 million at current exchange rates.
The London club has already asked the player for a quick decision, with coach Enzo Maresca personally involved in convincing him to join the Premier League.
Deco sets the price
Despite financial struggles, Barça are not planning to sell Fermín cheaply. Sporting director Deco has set a minimum asking price of €70 million (R$441 million) for the midfielder, according to journalist Miguel Rico.
Barça’s dilemma
Coach Hansi Flick has made it clear he does not want to lose Fermín, and the player himself has expressed his desire to succeed at Camp Nou. However, with limited opportunities in the squad he started just 19 of his 46 matches last season, scoring 8 goals and providing 9 assists the midfielder is now reconsidering his options.
Barcelona, meanwhile, desperately need a major sale to balance their finances and register new signings, which keeps the pressure high as the transfer window nears its end.
