Barcelona star Alexia Putellas hasn’t ruled out playing in the Mexican league: “You never know”

Twice named the best player in the world, Barcelona star Alexia Putellas praised the growth of women’s football in Mexico and admitted she has not ruled out playing in Liga MX Femenil in the future.
Barcelona on preseason tour in Mexico
Barcelona is finalizing preparations for the 2025/26 season with a preseason tour in Mexico. The Catalan giants are scheduled to play two friendlies: first against a team composed of Liga MX Femenil’s top players, followed by a clash with Club América Femenil.
The opening match, against the league’s stars, will be broadcast in Brazil via the Liga BBVA MX Femenil YouTube channel, while transmission of the América fixture remains unconfirmed.
Putellas acknowledges Mexican league’s growth
Speaking during her stay in Mexico, Alexia Putellas captain of Barcelona and one of the most decorated players in women’s football admitted she has been closely following the rise of the Mexican league.
“The league has been growing. When I meet with Jenni [Hermoso] and Andrea [Pereira], they explain how it works. Everyone knows that my plan is to fight for everything with Barça, but you never know,” said the two-time Ballon d’Or winner, referring to her Spanish teammates currently playing in Mexico.

Barcelona’s first test comes on Friday, August 22, at 11:30 p.m. (Brasília time) against the Liga MX Femenil All-Stars. The team will then face América on Sunday, August 24, at 3 p.m., before returning to Spain for their official debut in the F League.
