Barcelona could sell Fermín López: Newcastle prepares €100 million for the midfielder

Barcelona may struggle to keep hold of midfielder Fermín López, as Newcastle prepares a €100 million (R$632 million) bid—well above the Catalan club’s €90 million valuation. Chelsea are also in the race, setting up a Premier League battle for the 21-year-old.
Newcastle ready to break the bank
According to reports, Newcastle’s proposal will include a fourfold salary increase compared to Fermín’s current deal at Camp Nou. The Magpies view the Spaniard as a centerpiece of their midfield rebuild, alongside Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães.
The move comes just days after Newcastle secured striker Nick Woltemade, signaling the club’s ambition to assemble a squad capable of competing at the top level of European football.
Chelsea unwilling to back down
Chelsea had already tested Barcelona’s resolve with a €50 million (R$316 million) plus add-ons proposal quickly dismissed by the Blaugrana. The London club, however, continues to see Fermín as a strategic signing to strengthen their midfield and may return with a bigger offer.
Barcelona’s stance on Fermín
Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste recently reaffirmed the club’s position: “Fermín has a contract, we are happy with him, and he will remain at the club.”
However, the Catalans raised his price tag from €70m to €90m earlier this summer, reflecting his importance under Xavi Hernández. Even so, Newcastle’s rumored €100m bid could test Barça’s financial limits.
Player at a career crossroads
At just 21, Fermín López is approaching a decisive moment in his career. While Barcelona offers him continuity and a leading role in Xavi’s system, the Premier League projects from Newcastle and Chelsea promise higher wages and international exposure.
As the transfer window heats up, Fermín’s future looks set to be one of the most closely watched sagas in European football.
