Aston Villa confident of keeping Dibu Martínez despite Manchester United links

Talks with Old Trafford cool as Argentine goalkeeper edges toward staying

Aston Villa are increasingly optimistic that Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez will remain at the club for the upcoming season, despite strong interest from Manchester United earlier in the summer.

Transfer Talks Lose Momentum

Martínez, 31, had initially expressed a desire to leave Villa Park after the conclusion of last season, sparking interest from several top clubs. Manchester United emerged as a leading contender, particularly with speculation that André Onana could be sold. The Red Devils made initial contact and were seen as favourites to land the Argentine World Cup winner.

However, negotiations have since cooled, with Spanish outlet Marca reporting that the likelihood of Martínez staying at Villa is now “quite high.” The club has yet to receive any formal offers for their goalkeeper, and growing belief within Villa’s hierarchy suggests interest in him may be fading.

United Move Hinges on Onana’s Future

Manchester United’s pursuit of Martínez remains conditional. Sources indicate the club will only table an official bid if Onana’s departure is confirmed. Until then, Villa are confident of retaining their No.1 and have no intention of selling unless a substantial offer arrives.

Player Still Open to a Transfer

While Aston Villa’s stance is strong, Martínez has not entirely closed the door on a move. The goalkeeper is said to still be open to a transfer, but only if a suitable club meets Villa’s financial demands.

With the transfer window entering its decisive weeks, Martínez’s situation remains one to watch but for now, all signs point to him staying in claret and blue.
